Skypilot Kiteboarding proudly presents...

.... A kite shop in Squamish, BC!

We very cordially invite each and every one of you to celebrate with us in Squamish,
on Saturday June 23!

From 11-5pm we will be presenting a demo day at the Spit, with gear from:
** Airush
** Best
** Liquid Force
** Nobile
** Ocean Rodeo

From 6-9pm we invite you to join us at the shop for a BBQ & prize give-aways (2 free boards and more!) Obviously this is weather permitting so check back here if it's looking rainy.

The Skypilot Kite shop is co-located in the Howe Sound Juice Co. (38163 2nd Ave at the corner of 2nd & Pemberton) and also serves as a meeting place for the School.
You can see a map here

Features of the store are:
* try before you buy access to the above brands
* close proximity to the Spit
* competitive pricing
* healthy food to power you up before or after your session

We're also pretty stoked to announce an online component!

(The online shop launches on Sunday June 24th)

A portion of the school and store's revenues go directly toward operation of skypilotkiteboarding.com forums, cameras and future projects.

We hope you'll join us on Saturday!

I thought skypilot was a online forum for kiteboarding, and supporting the kiteboarding community with no commerical intent.

Support Airtime Board Sports!!!

Skypilot is an online forum for kiteboarding and has been supporting the kite community for the last 4 years. Who do you think has paid for the operation and maintenance of the cameras and forum? The vast majority of that came from the founders personal pockets.

I'm surprised to read that you ("anonymous"#3) think Skypilotkiteboarding.com was never used for commercial purposes. Up until recently there has only been one local shop available to the community and it has certainly had it's spotlight time in the forums. Airtime is a commercial venture.

As a consumer, I am glad that there is now an alternative for those of us wanting to do some comparison shopping. It's also great to have access to a broader range of products.

I'm stoked to see Airtime stepping it's game up a little on the demo kite front. It's been a long time coming and has done, due to to presence of competition.

Competition is a healthy thing for the entire community and really, to think otherwise is short sighted.

Does not seem to be about the community anymore. Guess that shows with the google ads in there now.

You guys who are complaining about Skypilot going commercial have no idea what goes on behind the scenes - you should shake your head or even better - bang it on the keyboard. It takes a lot of time, energy and CASH to keep this website going and yes this includes the forum that we all use and yes the web cameras we all use (expensive bandwidth). So if Alex wants to open a Skypilot store he should be able to and if he wants to keep the Skypilot community web site running he should be able to - without and hindrance from the very users that use this community website. Now if that means he needs to gain some money from revenue generated from a store to keep this site going, more power to him. Airtime is a great place and Philippe and Chris run a good shop - so what’s the matter with two shops or five shops – who cares (more variety to shop). Skypilot store is in Squamish, Airtime is in Vancouver and the Skypilot Community website is run by volunteers in the community for the kiteboarding community – in other words when you disrespect Skypilot community website by writing these negative post your crapping on us (ME) ..

So I would expect that all of you who have complaints inregards to there being 2 stores have never bought something off of ebay, or an online store but have ALWAYS had Airtime order it in for you? Oh that would also mean not buying anything within the buy/sell section here too....

Just think about it for a second, no one's been hammering Airtime, It's simply a second shop in another city. How could some competition be a bad thing? If a shop is a good shop the competition will not affect them that much.

What does the competition do for us the end buyers, we get a way wider range of gear available at better prices, better service from either shop because they're wanting our business. If better deals and service is a problem to you then I suggest giving your head a shake.

the anti-skypilot-going-commercial crowd must have nothing but wind between their ears.

losing community feel? f that! w/o funding from somewhere we'd lose the entire online skypilot community that's become an integral part of the kiteboarding scene in the vancouver area in terms of planning trips, info, safety advice, ride sharing, buying & selling gear, self-regulating newbies within the crowd in order to avoid bans etc etc.

you can't possibly expect one man to work balls out 24/7 in order to finance this cool site & webcams for all of us to utilize.

i fully support the commercialization of skypilot - well beyond being self sufficient. for all the hard work & dedication skypilot's founders have put into the site & community, they (he, alex) have EARNED the right to profit from their efforts.

they've earned the respect, support & loyalty of the community.

*EARNED* & they haven't stopped earning it. alex & crew kick ass every single day FOR skypilot & it's members, and they'll continue to - working hard for every return customer they have.

as for airtime, great shop, great guys too. zero complaints there, in the store, on the forum or in the water. always helpful advice & smiling faces along with a great selection of rigs & accessories in store.

however, airtime's era of being the only shop in town has come to an end. there's now some friendly competition that's making leaps & bounds in the windustry by doing a whole heck of a lot right in the sales game, and primarily that'd be "providing value first."

i know i've gotten a whole lot of value out of the skypilot forum, site & community - and that value's been provided by one hell of a chill kiter we all know as alex noke-smith, and thus, it's alex that's earned my business & by maintaining what he's doing he'll continue to grow his "client" base. i say "client" base because he's most definitely not in this fun game to rip cash from anyone's wallets, he's in it to grow a larger kiting community locally & beyond, creating more friends than customers.

in conclusion, if any of you wind-between-the-ears types would kindly like to contribute a solid 4 or 5 years of time & money to the kiting community while mainting a wickedcool attitude towards all involved, i'll gladly get behind ya & see to it that your efforts are recognized and rewarded - but for now, i'll continue to support alex & skypilot to the fullest in all of his commercial endeavours.

post script:

props to the volunteer staff, programmers, photographer, moderators & others too. there's a whole lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make this site & community a reality.

post post script:

don't like this particular kiter's opinion? blow me. i kid, i kid!

cheers,
ewing
